Three years ago, we laid down a single cask of ex-bourbon, first fill, and left it to do its work in the Brisbane heat.
This is what came out the other end: Milton’s first three year old rum, and the opening release in our New Horizons series. We didn’t make it alone. This is a joint blend with Hope and Anchor, one of Brisbane’s best bars, right down to the co-branded label. Two local names, one cask, three years of patience.
Expect tropical fruit up front, coffee and cacao through the middle, and burnt sugar and caramel on the way out, with spice lingering behind it. Distilled and matured on the Brisbane River from Queensland molasses, no shortcuts, no additives. There are 91 bottles. That’s the whole release, and once they’re gone, this exact rum doesn’t get made again.
